Vintage 1934 Chic & Classic 3-Piece Knit Suit  #476

MATERIALS:
Minerva Velveen, Blouse, 3 balls Contrast Color [CC]
Minerva Velveen, Jacket, 6 balls Main Color [MC]
Minerva Velveen, Skirt, 5 balls Main Color [MC]
#2 Circular Needle, 29”                   
Pair #2 Straight Needles, 12”
Elastic                                                
2 Buttons

GAUGE: 
8 ½ sts = 1”

BLOUSE: 
BACK: 
With CC & #2 needles cast on 120 sts, k 1, p 1 [ribbing] for 1”, then k 1 row, p 1 row [stockinette st = st st] for 10”.
Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows for underarm, then dec 1 st each side every other row 7 times [96 sts rem].
Work even until armhole meas 8”, bind off.

BLOUSE: 
FRONT: 
Cast on 134 sts, work same as back until work meas 12” from start to underarm, then bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows & dec 1 st each side every other row 10 times [104 sts rem].  Work even until armhole meas same as back, bind off loosely across front for neck.

SLEEVES: 
Cast on 86 sts, k 1 row, p 1 row, for 2 ½”, then bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at beg of every row until 32 sts rem, bind off.
Sew front & back tog for 2 ¼” each side for shoulder.  Sew sleeves in place; sew underarm seams, ease in fullness of front toward underarm.
Make 1 row sc around neck & sleeves, working loosely across front of neck.

JACKET: 
BACK: 
With #2 needles & MC cast on 130 sts, k 1 row, p 1 row, [st st] dec 1 st each side every inch 6 times, then inc 1 st each side every inch 9 times [136 sts on needle].
Now using circular needle, work back & forth.  Cast on 5 sts at end of every row 52 times [130 sts each side for sleeves].  Work even for 3 ½”.  On next row k 175, bind off 46 sts for back of neck.  On rem 175 sts work left sleeve [leave first 175 sts on circular needle as st holder].
Dec 1 st every other row at neck end 20 times, work even at wrist, then cont to dec 1 st every other row for shoulder & bind off 5 sts at beg of every p row 26 times for sleeve.  Work right sleeve to corres.

LEFT FRONT: 
Cast on 102 sts, dec 1 st every inch 5 times at underarm seam, then inc 1 st every 1 ½” - 5 times, then work even until underarm meas 15”.  cont even at front edge & dec 1 st every other row for Raglan armhole 46 times.  On rem sts work even for 3 ½” for collar across back of neck, bind off.
Work right front to corres, work first double buttonhole 5 ½” from start of work as follows:  k 2, bind off 6, k 3, bind off 6, k to end of row.
On next row cast on 6 sts over those bound off.  Work 3”, then work another double buttonhole in same manner.

FINISHING:
Sew underarm seams, ease in fullness of fronts toward underarm; sew front shoulder & sleeve seams.  Join fronts at top, fold in half & sew to back of neck from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.  Start at bottom of jacket turn back 1” hem on fronts for 14”.  Sew balance of hem to form facing to collar.  Turn up 1” hem around bottom & sleeves.  Overcast double buttonholes tog.

SKIRT: 
With circular needle & MC cast on 340 sts, join [be careful not to twist sts], k 19”.
On next row p 2, * k 3, p 2, rep from * 20 times [102 sts for front section of skirt], k 238.  Rep this row for 4 ½”.
Next row dec on 238 plain sts by k every 7th & 8th sts tog.  Work even for 2 ½”.
Next row dec on plain st by k every 6th & 7th sts tog.  Work 2” even.
Next row dec on plain sts by k every 4th & 5th sts tog.  Work 3” even or desired length.
Work casing or beading at top of skirt for elastic.

Work 1 row sc at bottom, sk every 6th st.  Work 1 row sc in each st.
