Vintage 1934 Pauquet Two-Piece Knit Dress #137


SIZE:  14

MATERIALS: 
Jack Frost Duveen 11 2 oz skeins
#3 circular needle - 24 inch          
#3 standard needles - 14 inch
#3 crochet hook

GAUGE: 
8 sts = 1 inch

SKIRT: 
With #3 circular needle cast on 360 sts.  Join. 

K 2 in even. 

On the next row start 1st arrowhead patt as follows:
1st row:  K 72, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 83, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 11.

2nd row:  Repeat 1st row.

3rd row:  K 71, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 81, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 29, p 3, k 10.

4th row:  Repeat 3rd row.

Continue add 1 p st to each side of p group every other row, until there are 23 p sts [end of arrowhead].

On the next row, k across arrowheads, keeping center sts of each arrowhead purled.

Continue keeping the center st of each arrowhead purled, knitting all other sts until skirt measures 6 in.

Then decrease 5 sts at each side over the 83 k sts at even intervals on the next row [350 sts].

Work 2 in even, then start an arrowhead between the 1st and 2nd p sts and the 3rd
and 4th p sts as follows:  K over the 78 side sts, * p 1, k 15, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 15, p 1, k78.  Repeat from * to end of row. 

Repeat for 1 row.

On the next row, k 78, * p 1, k 14, p 3, k 14, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 14, p 3, k 14, p 1, k 78, repeat from * to end of row.
Continue adding 1 p st on each side of arrowheads every other row as given above to 23 p sts.

On the next row discontinue the p 1 before and after the k 78, and work as follows:  k 110, * p 1, k 15, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 110, repeat from * across row.

At the same time continue decreasing 5 sts at each side of skirt, keeping decreases 1 above the other every 2 inches 5 times, then every inch 3 times.

When skirt measures 14 in, start last arrowhead on skirt as described above in the center of the k 31 as follows:  k 90, * p 1, k 15, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 15, p 1, k 90, repeat from * to end of row. 

When arrowhead is completed skirt will measure 16 in and there will be 300 sts on needle.

On the next row work as follows:  k 85, * p 1, k 31, p 1, k 31, p 1, k 85, repeat from * across row. 

Continue keeping the lines of p1 to waistline.

When skirt measures 19 in and there are 270 sts on needle, work 1 in even then decrease 5 sts at each side as before and also 1 st in center of each of the k 31, which will make 14 decreases across row.

Continue decreasing 14 sts, 1 above the other every in 2 more times [228 sts].

Work even to desired length.  Bind off.

BLOUSE:  Back: 
On #3-14 in needles, cast 127 sts.

1st row:  K 35, p 1, k 27, p 1, k 27, p 1, k 35.

2nd row:  P 35, k 1, p 27, k 1, p 27, k 1, p 35.

Repeat above 2 rows until piece measures 6 in, then start 1st arrowhead by purling 11 sts at each side of the 1st and last p 1, instead of knitting.

Continue adding 1 k st to each side of p group every other row until 1 p st remains. 

At the same time, when back measures 7 in, bind off 5 sts at each side, then decrease 1 st every other row 5 times for armhole.

Continue working back and forth, keeping center st p 4 in from end of arrowheads, start center arrowhead as above.

When armhole measures 7 in, bind off 9 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows, then 8 sts at the beginning of the next 4 rows.

Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: 
Cast on 70 sts. 
Starting at front edge, on right side of garment:
1st row:  K 31, p 1, k 38.

2nd row:  P 38, k 1, p 31.

Repeat above 2 rows. 

When work measures 1 in start 1st buttonhole as follows:  K 3, yo, k 2 tog. 

Buttonholes are repeated every in until I buttonholes are made.

When front measures 6 ½ in start arrowhead as given on back of blouse.

When front measures 7 ½ in bind off 5 sts at armhole edge once, then 1 st every other row 5 times. 

Work even.

After the 8th buttonhole has been made work 1 in even, then increase 1 st at neck edge every 3rd row until armhole measures same as back.

Then bind off as follows:  9 sts at armhole edge, 11 sts at neck edge, 9 sts at armhole edge, 10 sts at neck edge, 8 sts at armhole edge, 10 sts at neck edge, 8 sts at armhole edge, bind off remaining 10 sts. 

Work right side to correspond. 

Sew shoulder seams.

SLEEVES: 
On right side of garment pick up 35 sts across shoulder, keeping the center st p, pick up 5 sts at each end until there are 105 sts from end to end of armhole. 

Work 2 in even. 

Decrease 1 st at each end every 10th row until there are 85 sts remaining, then decrease 1 st at each end and every 8th row until there are 59 sts remaining.

When sleeve measures 16 in start arrowhead by p 11 sts on each side of p st as given on back of blouse.  When arrowhead is finished, reverse stockinette st by knitting on p side. 

Work 1 ½ in even.  Bind off. 

Work 1 row of sc at edge of cuff.

Sew underarm seam. 

Work 1 row of sc across front edges and around neck of blouse. 

Work beading around bottom of blouse and top of skirt. 

Join with elastic. 

Work 2 rows of sc around  bottom of skirt skipping every 19th st on first row and working second row st for st.

Allow 1 inch for blocking.
