Vintage 1944 Classy Clutch Bag #1061

MATERIALS:
Jack Frost Soutache – 3 gr yds
Interchangeable with Cordet, Ribbon Braid, or Straw
Lining Material
Ornamental Pin
Size #4 White Crochet Hook

BAG:
Ch 55, turn.

1ST ROW:  Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hk, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch.

Work back, working 1 dc in 3rd ch from hk, * sk 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, then work 1 dc in ch that was sk; rep from * across row [13 patts].  Ch 3, turn

2ND ROW:  * Sk 1 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, then work 1 dc in st that was sk; rep from * across row.

Rep 2nd row until 34 patt rows in all have been made.  Fasten off.

Starting over 2nd patt group on next row, cont in patt, fastening off at end of each row, working 1 patt less at each end of every row until 3 patts rem.

BORDER:
Leaving straight edge free, work 6 rows of sc back & forth on all other sides of bag, working 3 sc in corners to keep work flat.

Fold into shape.

Join sides tog with row of sc for 8”.

Work 1 row of sc across top of straight edge.

EDGING:
Join soutache to lower corner of bag with sc, * ch 6, work 1 sc in next st; rep from * around sides & flap of bag as shown in photo.
  
MISS JULIA’S PURSE LINING NOTES:
[Before joining finished pattern pieces]

Make paper patt from crocheted pieces & lay aside to be used later.

Cut lining according to paper patt & sew tog. 

Shirr lining bag form to correspond with crocheted bag.

Insert finished lining in bag. 

Sew in zipper [if desired].

Attach ornament to zipper pull tab [if desired].

Note:  Cardboard or lightweight plastic may be inserted between 2 layers of lining & bag to give shape extra support.
