Vintage 1946 Baby’s Sacque or Long Kimono & Booties Set #B-135

SIZE:
Infants
MATERIALS:
Chadwick’s Red Heart Baby Wool ¾ oz:
4 balls for Sacque
5 balls for Kimono
1 ball for Booties
Bone Crochet Hook #3
2 yds Ribbon ½” wide
GAUGE:
1 shell & 1 dc = 1”
2 rows = 1”

SACQUE OR KIMONO:
Start at lower edge, ch 147 to meas 25”.
1ST ROW:  In 6th ch from hk make 2 dc, ch 1 & 2 dc [shell made], * sk 2 ch, dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, in next ch make 2 dc, ch 1 & 2 dc [another shell made].  Rep from * across, ending with sk 2 ch, dc in last ch [24 shells with dc bet].  Ch 3, turn.
2ND ROW:  * Shell in ch-1 sp of next shell, dc in next dc.  Rep from * across, ending with dc in top st of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.
Rep 2nd row until piece meas 7” for Sacque, or 14” for Kimono.
RIGHT FRONT:
Work across until there are 6 shells, dc in next dc.  Ch 3, turn.
Work in patt across this set of sts only, until piece meas 9” for sacque, or 16” for kimono, ending at inner edge.  Ch 3, turn.
NEXT ROW:  Work across until there are 3 shells, dc in next dc.  Ch 3, turn.
Work in patt across this set of sts only until piece meas 11” in all for sacque, or 18” for kimono.  Break off.
BACK:
Sk next shell, attach yarn in next dc, ch 3 & cont across until there are 10 shells, dc in next dc.  Ch 3, turn.
Work over these sts only, until piece meas same as right front.  Break off.
LEFT FRONT:
Sk next shell, attach yarn in next dc, ch 3 & work across rem 6 shells, dc in top st of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.
Work to correspond with right front.  Break off.
Sew shoulder seams.
With right side facing, attach yarn at neck edge of right front, ch 4, * sk ¼” of neck edge, dc in edge.  Rep from * along neck edge.
Do not break off, but work edging along entire outer edge as follows:
Sc in side of last dc, ** sk ¼” on edge, 5 dc in edge, sk ¼”, sc in edge.  Rep from ** around entire edge, excluding neck edge.  Break off.
SLEEVES:
WRISTBAND:
Ch 9.
1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk, sc in each ch across.  Ch 1, turn.
2ND ROW:  Sc in back lp of each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.
Rep 2nd row until piece meas 4”.
Ch 1 & work 33 sc along edge of wristband.  Ch 3, turn.
NEXT ROW:  * Sk 1 sc, shell in next sc, sk 1 sc, dc in next sc.  Rep from * across.
Ch 3, turn & cont in patt until piece meas 8” in all.  Break off.
Sew sleeve seams & sew sleeves in.
Press thru damp cloth.
Run 1 yd of ribbon thru beading at neck.

BOOTIES:
TOE PIECE:
Ch 10.
1ST ROW:  Sc in 2nd ch from hk & in each ch across.  Ch 3, turn.
2ND ROW:  Dc in 2nd sc & in each sc across.  Ch 1, turn.
3RD ROW:  Sc in each dc & in top st of turning ch.  Ch 3, turn.
Rep 2nd, 3rd & 2nd rows.  Do not ch 1 at end of last row.
Ch 35 for ankle, sl st in 1st st at beg of last row.  Break off.
FOOT:
Attach yarn in center st of ch-35 [center back].
1ST RND:  Ch 1, sc in same place where yarn was attached, sc in next 17 ch, work 8 sc along side of toe piece, sc in each st across end of toe piece, 8 sc along side of toe piece, sc in rem 17 ch [60 sc].  Join with sl st in 1st sc.
2ND RND:  Ch 3 [to count as 1 dc], dc in each sc around.  Join with sl st in top st of starting ch [60 dc].
3RD RND:  Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each dc around [60 sc].  Join.
Rep 2nd, 3rd & 2nd rnds.
NEXT RND:  Ch 1, sc in each dc around, dec 5 sc evenly across toe & 3 sc evenly across heel [to dec, work off 2 sc as 1 sc].  Join.
FOLLOWING RND:  Rep 2nd rnd of foot.
Rep last 2 rnds once more.  Break off.
Sew edges tog for sole.
TOP:
Attach yarn at center back of ankle & work 48 sc around opening.  Join.
1ST RND:  Ch 3, * sk 2 sc, shell in next sc, sk 2 sc, dc in next sc.  Rep from  * around, joining last shell with sl st in 3rd st of starting ch.  Ch 3, turn.
2ND RND:  * Shell in ch-1 sp of next shell, dc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join.
Rep 2nd rnd 2 more times.  Ch 1, turn.
NEXT RND:  Sc in same place as sl st, * 5 dc in next shell, sc in next dc.  Rep from * around.  Join & break off.
Run ½ yd of ribbon in & out around ankle.
Tie in bow at front.
Make other bootie same as this.
